Congratulations to CBS Primary School in Dundalk who recently won the Primary School Category of the Show Racism The Red Card Creative Competition, a national Anti-Racism campaign which is supported by the FAI. Their entry was a video which told the story of how two new arrivals into Fifth Class were welcomed by their classmates in spite of language barriers. The children wrote their own tribute to “The Fresh Prince of Bel Air” and the composition showed how all students were important members of the class and the value of being friendly and welcomed. 240 entries were submitted and the Awards ceremony was held in Tallaght Stadium on Tuesday May 2nd. Sports commentator Tony O’ Donoghue chaired proceedings and the guest of honour was Republic of Ireland assistant manager Roy Keane. They discussed the CBS video presentation by referring to the importance of sport in breaking down barriers and praising students for being so welcoming to their new classmates. The former Manchester United and Republic of Ireland captain, presented the coveted award to students Joudy Barakat and Brajan Kowalski before the Minister of State with responsibility for diversity and integration also spoke about the Dundalk school’s entry.
